Emergency Management
Mission:
The Allegany County Office of Emergency Management collaborates with key stakeholder agencies and community partners to prevent, prepare for, mitigate, respond to, and recover from natural and human-caused emergencies and disasters. Our mission is to protect life and property by using a whole community approach that integrates agencies, offices, volunteers, and residents through outreach, training, and public education.

Through a whole community approach grounded in preparedness and mitigation, our vision is to build and sustain resilient, well-informed, and well-prepared communities across Allegany County that can withstand and recover efficiently from any emergency or disaster.
What We Do
The Allegany County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) serves as the central coordination point for emergency planning, preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation throughout Allegany County, New York. OEM develops and maintains county emergency plans, reviews local municipal plans, coordinates emergency operations during incidents and planned events, and provides training, resource support, and public preparedness information.
Staff are trained in National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) principles and serve as the core of the county Emergency Operations Center (EOC), operating from primary, alternate, or mobile command locations. OEM works closely with Federal Emergency Management Agency, New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, Fire Services, EMS, Law Enforcement, Public Health, Public Works, and other partners to support an all-hazards approach to emergency management.
Fire Services supports local fire departments through mutual aid coordination, planning, training, exercises, and resource deployment. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) supports ambulance and first response agencies providing ALS and BLS care, coordinates EMT, AEMT, and CFR training, and assists with EMS system planning and incident response.
Together, OEM, Fire Services, and EMS partners help protect the residents of Allegany County through coordinated public safety services.
