Belmont, NY – A public hearing was held before the Allegany County Board of Legislators in the County Legislative Chambers, Room 221, County Office Building, Belmont, New York, on September 28, 2022, commencing at 2:00 p.m. in connection with a proposed local law entitled, “A LOCAL LAW ESTABLISHING THE OFFICE OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY BOARD FOR ALLEGANY COUNTY, AND REPEALING LOCAL LAW NO. 2 OF 1985, (AS AMENDED BY LOCAL LAW NO. 1 OF 1995, LOCAL LAW NO. 1 OF 2010, AND LOCAL LAW NO. 3 OF 2021).” The local law passed and established the Office of Economic Development and the Economic Development Advisory Board, and repeal Local Law No. 2 of 1985, as amended by Local Law No. 1 of 1995, Local Law No. 1 of 2010, and Local Law No. 3 of 2021.
With passage of Local Law 1 of 2022, Allegany County has begun actively recruiting for the position of Economic Development Director. This is a new position that was previously staffed through contractual services. This transition will allow Allegany County to bring economic development services in house with the intention to plan, coordinate and encourage all facets of business including industrial, recreational, commercial, tourism, and economic development within our County. Economic development is a critical component in keeping a community successful driving retention, expansion, attraction and growth of visitors, residents, businesses and industry, thereby facilitating an improved quality of life.
Recently rebranded as the Western NY Wilds, Allegany County is home to 39 rural communities with approximately 47,000 residents and has a large focus on outdoor recreation, entrepreneurship, and artisans.

Qualified individuals must have the following: 1) Bachelor’s degree and three years of development experience; 2) an Associate’s degree and five years of development experience; or 3) seven years of experience. It also requires residency in Allegany County at the time of appointment.
