Community News

The Allegany County Department of Health identified our third and fourth cases of COVID-19 today, Saturday, March 28, 2020.  “We have already reached out to all direct contacts of the positive cases to ensure they are quarantined and/or isolated from the public,” said Brittney Schuld, Director of Patient Services for the Health Department.

What we know now is:

  • Both cases are female, one 43, the other 35. Both cases are recovering well.
  • Our new positive cases are not linked to one another or any other cases and have had no travel history. This means that these cases are community acquired and that the public should assume that COVID–19 is still present.
  • The Health Department follows state guidance with investigations so people directly in contact with these cases have been notified and are already isolated and/or quarantined.

What should you do now?

  • We cannot stress strongly enough the need to stay home, even if you feel well and especially if you are ill.
  • If you are part of an essential business, feel well, and must work, go to work, but try to stay at least 6 feet away from others and go straight home.
  • If you need to go to the store, have a list so you can shop as quickly as possible, limit your contact with people and only send one person.
  • Try to stay out of the community as much as possible. While it’s OK to go outside, please limit your exposure to others and don’t allow children to gather, play together, etc.
  • Continue diligent hand-washing, disinfecting, monitoring for symptoms, calling ahead to your provider if you or loved ones develop symptoms and covering your cough or sneeze.

An important resource to help you stay socially distanced and protect the community’s health is the Telemedicine list attached.
