Whereas, the year 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing and protecting women’s constitutional right to vote, and
Whereas, the 72-year fight to achieve this milestone of democracy is commemorated and celebrated throughout the United States, and
Whereas, Allegany County is home to an estimated 22,677 women, and
Whereas, women are vital to the future social, economic, spiritual, and intellectual well-being of our country, and Allegany County has long appreciated and celebrated the contributions of women to the vibrancy of life in our community, and
Whereas, women’s right to vote has enhanced the political discourse in Allegany County, the State of New York, and the United States of America, and
Whereas, Allegany County wishes to commemorate and honor the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution which gives the right of free access to voting for ALL its citizens;
NOW, THEREFORE , I , Curtis W. Crandall, Chairman of the Allegany County Board of Legislators, in conjunction with the Catherine Schuyler NSDAR Chapter, do hereby proclaim 2020 as a celebration of the adoption of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, which ensured women’s right to vote.
